Still There: Comments, critiques?
I shot this in Christchurch, NZ:
It's an area that's been closed off since the earthquake, nearly four years ago. To me, it's a reminder not only of how much things have changed, but how much of the rebuild and recovery still lies ahead.
Reactions, comments, and criticisms would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael

Intereting comments and thoughts, Michael. The shot through the fenced off area (that shows the fence) at this damaged site does tell a story. The converging lines of the passage lead our eyes to the bright spot at the back.
I guess your question is really about how the image works. For me, it really does not work all that well. A strong image draws my eye to the main subject and I can't really find anything in this image that holds my eyes; the scene is just too busy to do that. My eyes dart all over the place looking for something to settle on and can't really find that spot here. The whole capture seems to be the subject (and that rarely work all that well).

Interesting image Mike, I like the way you've shot it through the fencing. I have to agree with Manfred though, the image is very busy and there is no focal point really.
A friend of mine emigrated to NZ to setup a tattoo shop in Christchurch, then the earthquake hit a month later destroying the shop so he had to move back. (It could be one of those buildings there!)

Nice capture, unfortunately you only get so many angles to explore scenes such as this. If you have a chance return and try to work it as much as you're allowed.

Thanks for the feedback. Any suggestions on how to get a better shot here when I go back?
