    Evening Prayers - Varanasi

After the sun goes down, seven Hindu priests chant and say prayers for the protection of the world from the central ghat in Varanasi. The light was terrible (backlighting) and I had to crank the ISO as high as it can go to get a few decent shots. I was sitting in a small rowboat on the Ganges to make this capture. I did a B&W conversion to reduce the impact of sensor noise and create a grittiness to the scene.

There were thousands of people on the ghat and many hundreds more sitting in wooden boats on the river. Simply amazing...

Regardless of the quality of the image Manfred, a scene that is well worth capturing and one that I'm sure you will remember forever.

Beautiful in black and white. The cranking up the ISO certainly worked.

+1 from me. The grittiness adds to the comp IMHO and captures atmosphere. Just goes to show.
