"Natural Defences" C&C requested

Hi,

This was taken in Lanzarote earlier this year. The sunlight was very bright, and with a micro 4/3 camera and a travel zoom I didn't have a great deal of control of DoF. Still there are a couple of things I think I could have done differently, and I'd welcome suggestions. Either suggestions on pp, but probably more on how I could better have tackled the image. I was aiming for a statement of defences, and a strong pattern.

Nice capture, some loss of detail in the highlighted area, but this seems like a midday capture and it would be expected.

Good one, Dave...very forbidding to touch...the overexposed area at the LHS needs a bit more sharpening...

Dave, your subject, the spiked green thingy, peeked my curiosity...want to see more of it without the
cluttering aspect of the briar background. It would seem to be an interesting subject by itself.

Sometimes a polarizing filter can help give you richer, more saturated colors.

The shadows work well with this orientation and the eye flow from bottom left to upper right seems to be more appealing as well.
