    Kite Surfing

Just got around to undertaking the PP on these, shot a couple of weeks back testing the Tamron 70-300mm pushed to max FL.

I must remember to get away from using Auto WB on images that can become a series

    No 1 - 1/500, f/9, 300mm
    Kite Surfing

    No 2 - 1/1000, f/9, 300mm
    Kite Surfing

    No 3 - 1/1600, f/7.1, 300mm
    Kite Surfing

    No 4 - 1/1600, f/7.1, 300mm
    Kite Surfing

    Good job Grahame!
These are tricky I find, as the kite nz& the surfer are far apart, so it can be hard to convey the speed and action, but I think you have done a nice job of it here.

    Thank you Kay.

I could not find a way on this first attempt to get both the surfer and kite in frame at a reasonable size but I'll have another try hopefully soon but it's sure fun trying

I second Kay's remarks, Grahame. If you back the focal length right off to get the rider and kite in frame, it hardly seems worth the effort - to me anyway. (I found this also with hang-gliders - difficult to get a good shot with the whole chute in frame.) But I think you have captured the essence of it with the 2nd shot.

Thanks Greg, I'll have a search on Google Pics to see how others capture this sport to get some ideas but at present limited with surfing the web as no antivirus as partly through a full computer build.

You too??? It's a PITA having to rebuild and I just did mine a few days ago so not using it to surf until I install my anti-virus software...

Anywho...#1 and #2 conveys what you are trying to achieve here and show the action and the form really well, but I like the closeup shots of #3 and #4 because of the expression of his face. He looks like really enjoying what he is doing...the feeling of exhilaration of #3 is very good...you've captured them all.

I love beach activities shots...(and men loving their sports) ... hope you have more of where this came from...

Great shots Grahame! My favourite is #2 - like a bird in flight coming in for a landing, set off by a great big blue sky.

These work and work well Grahame. I'm always tempted to get everything in the shot with the result that not only is everything too far away but generally, the kite lines disappear against the sky. These convey the action much more effectively.

Hi Grahame I agree with the other members about #2 , it conveys the action well enough. I also like #4.

John, Izzie, Christina, John 2, and Binnur.

Thanks for commenting on these, it's appreciated as it is something I have not tackled before. If it stops raining here and brightens I'll be looking for another opportunity to try and capture some 'in flight' shots.

Izzie, yes I'm presently undertaking a build of a new computer and have got to the stage where it has a working email system, CiC access but nothing else yet.

The stress levels caused by it I reckon are on a par with moving house or getting divorced and I totally blame CiC members for causing this. If it had not of been for some of them continually mentioning Lightroom I would have had no inclination to try and load a trial only to find my steam driven system with Windows XP was not compatible

Hi Izzie, I'm now on Windows 7 (all I could get here) on a new quad core machine, security protected, fully online with my Elements 7 working and have just played for the first time with the Lightroom Trial downloaded tonight.

As for all my other programs and 1000s of files they remain on the two HDs from my old machine, connected in the new and will get sorted as I need things

And I have just noticed the spell check is actually worse than my spelling

Keep it that way, Grahame. All my files are in 5 hard drives and I got so far as installing Acrobat 9 (which will not install properly unless I also install Photoshop CS4 with it and Adobe Air whatever that was...then installed the rest of the Photoshop CS5 Master Suite. Photoshop is a PITA at times but I was able to do some editing of some shots from the pumpkin farm yesterday. And some shots for the cookies and orange challenge. No email yet so I am using my laptop for that...it is still a work-in-progress but I may be on the way. As long as I have photoshop in it, I am happy...Have my terrabyte drive that belongs to my laptop so I can use it as a portable drive to and fro when I want to send some shots to someone in the mail. Maybe I should keep that desktop free from the internet so it doesn't junk out on me again...just thinking out aloud...

Good night...gotta get back to bed.
