Nice image Dave,
I like the composition as it stands, I tried moving the Lytebox around at the edges of my monitor to try alternative crops, but I think it is more balanced as it originally was.

Thank you Dave
Great shot. I do like the fact that you have nature almost framing the shot with the grass and the rocks on the bottom and right then in the sky, stars.
I can see where the debate about cropping the grass from the shot. However, if I was to crop this shot, I would remove a lot of the sky too and have a narrow panorama of the cityscape.
Thanks Craig. I did actually create a 2:1 pano style crop in which some of the sky was removed and this worked quite well too. I guess it all depends on the effect you are after.

Dave -- I still prefer the original one and perhaps the second one with still the grass on it though cropped. The one without the grass just doesn't cut it...just my opinion...the grass on the original one did not bother me so I did not noticed it much. A large print of this scene will be nice to grace your daughter's wall in Melbourne.
Dave, congrats on the new camera.
Lucky I have come in late and now have the option of seeing the variations. Simple choice, the grass and foreground as in No 1 enhances the scene IMHO.

Hi Dave I like your first crop but I wouldn't crop it from the bottom, I would crop it only from right side to make a framing by using the rocks. The rocks and bushes add to the scene, why crop them? May be you cropped it also from the bottom to keep the aspect ratio, but IMO it doesn't work. So I would suggest that you should either crop it only from right hand side or just leave the image as is.
Thanks for your comments Grahame. I appreciate your views.
As for the D610, well it was an agonizing decision to go from Canon to Nikon and I seriously considered the Canon 6D but in the end it seemed the right way to go for me. It felt a bit funny though the first time I put the new neck strap on with that gold lettering
