    Falls NSW Australia + cat

Had a quick trip to Australia (7 days) to catch up with my son's family including their cat that was either trying to keep me off my bed or help me plan the next day's outing.

Having the day to myself I grabbed my sons car and drove about 40km south to the Fitzroy Falls 81m.

A 15km drive past a dam and through attractive bush took me to the Belmore Falls with a main drop 77m but overall 130m.

About another 20km on after driving past Robertson with it's cheese and ice cream factory and told later great pies I arrived at the Carrington Falls total drops 160m.

I would needed to have been at all the falls very early in the morning to catch the best light but it is certainly a beautiful area and the walks to the falls were all short and easy which was just as well as it was 27-32deg C most of the day.

From the look on the cat's face, you may not want to know what he is planning!

Nice shots of the falls. Do you think you'll get the chance at morning light?

A very nice set of scenes LPaul. You've "done us proud". Waterfalls are not always easy to capture effectively but your compositions work well for me.

Frank you were right. The cat most nights jumped off the bed when I got in but on the second to last night it stayed on it, snuggled up to my hand for a quick stroke then bit it before jumping off.

When I go back next year I will try getting to the falls early morning but I am back home now. (cat wins?)

Thanks Dave. The dynamic range of the camera certainly helped as the falls were hiding in shadow and it took a bit of coaxing to get them out.

    + to Dave's comments.

I haven't been around those falls for many years. Might consider a drive when the weather cools down.

The Robertson Pie Shop is famous for its pies. That could have been the highlight of your outing, Paul.

I take it you noted that the cat when it looks down it would be watching you.... (if they put you on the map)

Why does everyone tell you things too late and my Son even knows I like pies.

Beautiful set. My favourite is #4 which I find especially gorgeous for the colours and the composition. I have to say that I also love the image of the cat and your story.

Ah, yes. I thought the cat's expression was warning you not to come here

BTW, I think Fitzroy is the one noted for its afternoon fogs - in the right weather conditions, of course. That might be something worth checking up on before a return visit, Paul.

I suspect the cat is wondering if it's going to be taken on the trip

A good series, I find No 6 has a special appeal to it but can't put my finger on the reason why.

Thanks John. The area is about 90km south of Sydney near the coast. On the Illawarra Escarpment. The Blue Mountains are a bit more inland west of Sydney although the south end of them is only about 50km from where I was. Greg is the local expert.....

Hi Christina I am glad you enjoyed them. The cat looks nice but looks can be deceiving.(actually we got on alright)

My son has just had a look at this thread and clearly stated that the cat is not capable of planning anything and would never bother to warn me of the possible perils of Wollongong. Yes definitely a return trip.

Grahame I suspect that the cat (which plonked itself down firmly on the region of the map where it lives) had no intention of moving even for a trip let alone getting off my bed.

If you had not said it was a good series I would have assumed you liked #6 because it was the last... or maybe you do not like water?
Actually I rather like it too as it is very typical of the immediate scenery and I think catches the mood of the place.

Thanks Kay - I like Victoria as much as NSW but don't tell Greg etc.

I love your waterfall series but I am more interested in the cat. It was a nice shot of him and he sure is a fat one! And they have Best Western in Wollongong?!

Not as fat as the photographer... Yes amazing a Best Western in Wollongong. Some people would consider Wollongong the cultural centre of the southern hemisphere - obviously not me.

Izzie I am glad you liked the photographs.

Thanks Binnur. Yes out of the waterfall shots I prefer #3 maybe because I can see a great private camping spot between the two falls - I have just got to figure out how to get there... My expression when I found the cat sitting on the map may have made a scary photo.
