Zenith Bay Australia

I'm just sorting out some potential 2015 calendar images. During the search I spotted this one and thought it may just make the final thirteen calendar images. I had forgotten about the image but...do remember our Australian friends (they stayed on a board-walk rather than coming down to the beach) asking me what was so interesting for me to take the image. Looking back at the image it was the little pink flowers that made the image for me.

What do you think should I keep it for the calendar?

It is a nice peaceful scene. The pink flowers are not very noticeable but I like the green plants on the sand

I just wonder about a slight crop from the bottom and right side. Would this produce a better overall composition and make those little flowers more noticeable?

Choosing calendar photos becomes a real nightmare for me. I can never make firm decisions about rejecting many images. So I try to get it down to around 20 then take them to my local pub for other people to make the final choices.

Yes, I'd say that could make it into a calendar.

But I was wondering why the Australians named a beach after a 1960s Soviet Union built SLR!

It seems that it is more usually known as Zenith Beach rather than Zenith Bay.

I don't know how it got its name Donald but Port Stephen which is near here was named by Captain James Cook in 1770 after the Secretary of the Admiralty.

There have been many things marked under the name Zenith. Which I think means the highest point; wasn't it originally an astronomical term?

To me, Zenith remains as the name of old design carburettor, fitted to many vehicles pre 1960's approx.

The other popular carb of the time was a Solex, if I remember correctly.

Donald, we Aussies will take a name from just about anyware - for example, we have a Lake Mackenzie on Fraser Island !

I am with Dave on this.

It is 'worthy' as a calendar shot because you can spend several seconds looking around and seeing stuff you hadn't previously.

I hard to look hard to find a pink flower.
I am happy with the current crop/composition.

Sure I changed a pair of carbs on a Wolseley 1300 once, not sure what I fitted, I think it had a Germanic sounding name, I think it came in an orange coloured box.

And takes me back too. I was selling Zenits in the early 1970's, and although I don't actually remember them being marked Zenith, research on EBay shows that some were. Sorry Donald!

Possibly, Dave, your German carbs which were sometimes fitted when vehicles were being 'suped up' were Webbers (or something like that) which were often fitted as a pair for extra performance.

Anybody got any photos of them, and willing to admit their age?

Yup, Webbers, that was them.

As I recall, the factory fitted SU pair had worn out.

I enjoyed reading about all of the memories the name of the Bay brought back to some of you, cars, carburettors etc. So I thought as the "OP" I would be allowed to go off at a slight tangent wrt to the name Zenith.

I was out for lunch yesterday and spotted this in the gentleman's toilets (that's Bathroom for some readers here)

Obviously a name that has been used for numerous products in various parts of the world. Any guesses what this contained?

Hey, I like the reflection of the one opposite, or perhaps it is beside this one, but reflected in a mirror which is opposite.

And all the time Zenith reminds me of airconditioners...anyway, I agree with Geoff about cropping the bottom part up where the first pink flower nearly is.

For the second shot, of a hygiene system, I have no answer to that one...maybe a receptacle for rubbish?

The Zenith Hygiene subject is a paper towel holder, I'm not sure about the reflection to be honest but...I suspect it is from a mirror above a wash basin to the left of the subject.
