    3 Shot Merge

Not trying for any heavy HDR or anything, but using 3 exposures was the only way to capture this. C&C welcome.

Some may say this is not HDR but I like the image irrespective.

The lighting conditions of the scene determine whether it is HDR not how people perceive the result....... HDR is not a fashion but some people think it is.

Brian, well done but the contrast needs a little boost to add a fraction more punch.

Thanks. I was thinking that increasing the contrast would push it a little closer to being a poorly done HDR image. I really want to keep the overall mood as low key as possible - but I will have a look at increasing contrast.

I like it, I'd be tempted to crop some of the clouds at the top?

Nice scene captured there. I'm not sure I know how to blend exposures that way. Can it be done in a regular photoshop program?

It can... File>Automate>Merge to HDR Pro then add your files. Can't help you any more than that because I have never done it that way - I've always used Photomatix.

That does seem like a natural spot for cropping, but I didn't for a couple of reasons.

First I have been noticing that a lot of my photos end up being fairly wide to panoramic and I would like to try keeping more photos at 4:3 or 3:2. Many cropping suggestions that I see on this forum seem to favor widescreen type aspect ratios. I'm starting to wonder if all the widescreen TVs, tablets, phones, computer monitors etc have changed what people are expecting to see.

Second reason is that I find the bottom two thirds of the current photo quite busy - there is a lot to take in from the bench, the fence, the city lights, the sunset that by the time my eyes get up to the sky I find it quite relaxing to just look at the sky and not have to think too hard. If I cropped some of the clouds I would find the entire photo busy. Also I really like the look of the two pine trees - I think their size is accentuated with the full sky showing.

I would probably only cut some of the sky if I was making some desktop wallpaper for my computer.

I like it the way it is, Brian...the place is beautiful and the bench added a sense of coziness to the whole surrounding as a whole, very inviting. If this is mine, I will clone out at the left post connecting the fence, that is all. It doesn't bother me but it will be nice without it.
