    there must be a scientific name but around here they are simply called 'fresh water' turtles. they are forest dwellers and will grow to a foot or so wide. Their major predator is, of course, humans and they are almost extinct in this part of the Philippines. We are trying to get a breeding stock going. Possibly for meat but absolutely for excellent compost for the veggie patch.
