Mathew Williams! You forgot to put a space between your uploaded shots....
now that is off my chest....
I like both -- very neat. Well.. apart from that leaf in the second shot...
...are you an architect? Is this your deck? It is too clean...I want to nit it but I can't...

Nice patterns, I would try to emphasize the shadows and the horizon in the second image.
