It is usually a high number (i.e. enough) so I thought RAW was more relevant.
Nick - I'm merely looking at the practicalities of data throughput and the variables that impact the ability to get pictures. Test websites do tests, which are sometimes an interesting read from a theoretical standpoint, but the practical realities need to be factored in as well

Burst mode is often used by both sports photographers and bird photographers, who are more interested in getting the right action "shot", hence they will default to jpegs to maximize the shooting rate, rather than go for greater quality potential of RAW. I can't think of too many shooters that do burst mode RAW captures.

I almost never shoot burst mode, because I am neither a bird nor sports shooter. In fact the last time I remember using burst mode was to capture an erupting geyser a few years ago, and here I was okay with a full buffer from raw data, as the interesting part of the eruption was less than two seconds, so getting around 8 shots was more than enough for what I wanted.

It is hard to compare the D7100 to another Nikon full frame camera. These two cameras could and in many ways are completely different, my choice here is the Nikon D4s, the D7100 24mp the D4s 16.3mp, D7100 a SD card, D4s a compact flash card. Push the shutter button on the D7100 and hold, buffer fills quick, do the same with the D4s when will it stop taking shots. You want low light shooting, the D4s, blinding fast auto focus, the D4s, one of the fastest frame rates per sec, the D4s all the time shooting raw files.
This is a problem when a poster wants to compare a camera ie: "Nikon D7100 vs full frame Nikon" what Nilon full frame to you choose, better if they would pick the full frame model.

    Cheers: Allan

I did research before I wrote what I wrote: neither the OP's name - "Mark Robucks" nor any of the information in his Bio Page lead me to conclude any reason why the question asked of him goes unanswered.

Does your post imply that you have a theory as to why he would not answer?

I don’t consider that the original Opening Post is all that old: it was posted Nov 14, which is only about 4 and a bit weeks ago. But yes the conversation has digressed to other topics, but my comment regarding Mark not answering the question, was directed to a comment made to the original question Mark asked in his opening post.

To be clear, I don’t mind of Mark answers the question or not: he might have bought a camera – there are a thousand and one reasons why people choose not to answer questions and that is entirely their choice so to do.

I was merely indicating that at least four commentators have placed emphasis on knowing what lens cache the OP has and the answer to that has a bearing on the skew of the advice that would be given.

For myself, I have not provided a point of view on what camera the OP (or others in a similar position) might better consider because I await that information.

I was not sure if you were talking to me thinking I was the OP - but I see you weren't. I think that the OP was new here, or had never done much here, rather, so is not a regular and probably isn't checking this thread anymore. Just happens sometimes.
