Re: Smoke & Water
Oh dear & here's me puddling along trying to get a windless night for my fog over the swimming pool plan.... & you're producing this!
It is seriously cool, the combination of fire & ice in the composition is terrific, the exposure is very clever & the colour of the candle, well that is just the icing on the cake.
Well done & thanks for sharing.

Re: Smoke & Water
Kay thank you so much.
Funny, but recently I have been reading threads here about “where would you go if you could go anywhere to shoot” and “the most photographed areas in the world” kind of stuff.
Fun to dream about this. But I can go no further than my studio (aka garage) and shoot stuff that has never, ever been seen before and cannot be duplicated. I can shoot true one-offs even if they suck! Of course the style of shooting isn’t new and can be duplicated, but no two shots can ever be the same. And I find that seriously cool.
Kind of like your “Shining” horror show! Which btw I was seriously digging!
And what I am talking about is bringing your artistic vision to fruition by way of your camera. Starting from scratch with a blank canvas, nothing in front of you to shoot, and a dream, such as you do Kay.
Whether or not we produce anything close to what we are hoping for is really irrelevant. It is the process, outlet, and the need to have this that is fun and important.
So I’m going to send some “calm” vibes your way Kay for a windless night and hope when it happens you will stun us all with your vision and expertise. Again.
This is nothing compared to the “Smoke on the Water” shot you are looking at, but it may be at least the next best thing if you can’t get out while waiting on Mother Nature to cooperate! I’m really looking forward to seeing it Kay.

Thank you Izzie!
I can’t speak for the grow up thing. I never did and hope I never do!
But I will say regarding the “one day”?
Now is the time and the time is now!

Re: Smoke & Water
I thought this was the best of your pictures in this vein. I am still puzzling about how it might be done.

I just wonder where this theme is leading?
Please do not tell us yet how it was done, it will spoil the enjoyment They really are inspiring and fun.

Re: Smoke & Water
Good shot, Terry. The thin lines of water do remind me of tinsel, though.

I agree, don't tell us the behind the scenes secrets!... Things we don't fully understand are always a bit more magical!

Thank you everyone for commenting.
If I would have had even the slightest inkling that it might be detrimental to provide a little “How I Done It” thing I would never even had considered doing it.
I never do unless asked, mostly because I figure no one really cares. I was asked and, in what I thought was the Spirit of the Forum, I said.
Please accept my humble apologies.
It will not happen again.

Re: Smoke & Water
Another terrific image, Terry!
Is there any way you can use the post-processing to emphasize that the smoke is rising from the cylinder (whatever it is) rather than rising from behind it? While that might be obvious in a larger display of the image, it's difficult to see that detail at the size presented here.

Re: Smoke & Water
Thank you Kevin. Thank you Mike.
Just for posterity Mike, the cylinder is a candle!
As for the smoke it was shot naturally as it occurred. I guess I could clone the smoke column down into the candle a little? I’m open to suggestions for improvement if you have one, but as the candle is tilted forward slightly and it is within the realm of possibility that the smoke is just not visible that low on the column, I really didn’t notice that.
Thank you for the suggestion, sir. I’ll have another look-see.
