Re: The boys
If you can get them to pose that obediently with a camera pointed at them then you are well on your way towards your new career. Nice efforts.

Re: The boys
I like the first shot, although I think it could use a bit more depth of field - the 2nd shot seems better in that respect. I would remove the reflected light from the subject's right eye.
(It would help if you put a few spaces between the images so they don't blend into each other.)

Re: The boys
They are all nicely done but please for the sake of my getting old eyes (without my contacts at this time of the early morning), please. please, please put a space between your uploaded shots. Thanks.

Re: The boys
Hi Craig, one thing I notice about portrait close-ups like these is the focus. The second shot is excellent in this regard, you can even see the detail in the hair and pupils of the eyes!
In the first one, the prominent nose is out of focus and the collar, being sharper in focus than the nose, grabs more attention than is warranted. The depth of field wouldn't be as much of an issue, given that the eyes are in focus, if it weren't for the very tight crop on the face.
For the image of the dog, what do you feel you would want to change before reposting this shot?

Re: The boys
Funnily enough I was talking to a photographer friend yesterday, and he suggested that the OOF 'look' on the cat was probably caused by slight over saturation, so I knocked it back a little, and whaddayaknow!
As for the dog shot, it was very much a candid shot, so the composition isn't great. A couple of seconds earlier, his head was nestled between the 2 cushions you can see in the lower corners. I can't find a way to crop them out, so they had to stay. The white balance is off a bit too, as the GF1 struggled to cope with flourescent light and yellow walls/couch throws, and bounced all the yellowy light right back at a ginger dog! I do like the pose though, he looks.....noble.
