    Ice & Water

I know, I know! They are the same thing occurring in different states!

    F/22
    1/200th
    ISO 100
    One light fired.

This is one frame, one shot. And believe me no one is more surprised at that than me!

Another really terrific one! These are your acrylic ice cubes, right?

Congratulations! That is such a good feeling. I had the same thing happen once. I don't have a prayer of a chance of the same type of thing ever happening again and the shot I pulled off wasn't nearly as tough as this one. The chance of a golfer hitting a hole in one is far greater, which is what makes it so satisfying.

Thank you Mike. That means a lot coming from you.

They are the acrylic cubes. They are just gorgeous albeit wallet depleting! I’m not really sure real ice would even work for this the way I shot it (I am no longer at liberty to divulge! ).

My good friend, Mr. Tom Petty, I think said it best in my case: “Even the losers get lucky sometimes”!

Very nice, Terry...it is always a pleasure looking at your creations but a PITB trying to emulate it.

Indeed! I bookmarked the source of your acrylic cubes long ago and I'm being extra specially nice to my wife in the coming weeks. That's because the cubes are going on my Christmas wish list.

    Re: Ice & Water

I recently acquired another set of acrylic display cubes from here Mike.

They are not handmade or as elegant but are considerably (by a long shot) less expensive. They also have the hand made high $$ versions.

I got these because I wanted a lot of them and wasn’t going to pony up for a large number of the handmades.

I haven’t shot the new cubes yet. I was hoping to maybe today. I have to get my fall leaf management program running again today before it rains and before I get to have fun!

Thanks for that link, Terry. Do the cheaper cubes appear noticeably less real just looking at them (as opposed to photographing them)?

I look forward to photos of your new cubes for comparison purposes. So, get cracking on those leaves!

    Yes.

To me they look like just what they are which is machine made acrylic cubes. They are not exactly perfectly cubic, which is good. They might be okay if you spruce them up a bit, you know, add a glycerin/water mist, maybe in a glass of liquid, but just looking at them is pretty boring. They are all identical, which one might expect. I’m just spoiled with the beautiful handmade pieces. I guess you get what you pay for!

But for $22 US (including shipping) for a set of nine I thought I’d give them a shot and see how they shoot.

    Absolutely magical!

This image reminds me of Mike's images of wine bottles... The highlights are beautiful (as is the colour blue) and the detail is amazing.

    Beautifully photographed as always!

    Thank you Christina.

I thought blue was the obvious choice. You know, cool color temp, ice and all!

I am at a loss as to how this might remind someone of wine bottles, but hey!

That’s what makes the World go round!

A much stronger imagination is apparently required than possessed by either you or me.
