Sky on fire

Tonight while caring for my horses, I noticed the sky to the east turning colors... the more i watched the deeper it became. That's when I decided to leave the horses for a bit to head back to the house to grab the camera. I am so glad i did, because after I witnessed this, it was gone. It was spectacular.

I like that red colour, I just see red sky in my childhood.
But I think the image would better if you chose a good composition and use a wide lens.
Of course the lack of time wouldn't let.

Wish there was time to grab a wide angle but there wasn't. I also agree about the compostion. I just really wanted to share the color with everyone as it was unlike anything I have seen. :-)

Well worth grabbing even if you don't have a favored lens. Nice effort.

I have a dissenting view point in that I find the composition enjoyable. Not an award winner but quite nice. Ironically, the image for me isn't about the red tones in the sky. Instead, it's about the pattern in the trees.

I would probably crop to eliminate part of the right side just a little bit but it works for me as is.

Kim...I find this shot interesting. I like it for what it is but looking at it closely I was thinking of fire nearby at the other side of the trees about to reach the area, real fire which can be either beautiful to shoot but distractive to be around in. Let's hope it will be a beautiful day there where you are tomorrow when you wake up. I love this shot very much...a rarity.

It's not often that I like dead black silhouettes but it works for this one Kim. Worth the run back to the house.

I'm with Mike (or even moreso) in that I find the composition to be very good. If the trees had been more densely packed together and there was less sky on show, then, I agree, it would not have worked. But as it is, I think it is a very attractive image. And it's an excellent result from having had to work quickly.

I like this too Kym. As Izzie says, it's almost like there is a real bush fire behind the trees. Very dramatic.

Good morning everyone. Thank you all for your comments and viewpoints on the composition. Ideally I would have liked to capture one dramatic tree (one of those old oaks with the branches that go everywhere) against the sky, but it just wasn't possible as one wasn't to be found in short order. As a result, the mission became capturing a memory...

Izzie, I agree it does have the look of a fire; sadly, that old saying "pink sky at night a sailors delight" didn't hold true as we are in for a snow storm today...

We are just having a little snow here in Missouri, we are only on two inches and still snowing...nothing much will come out of it. Mores slush than anything else...

I must agree. It shows that you always need to have a camera handy.
