    Old Man Emu

This character was acting as a very effective guard dog in a property in an outback Queensland town. He had that angry look in his eye and was NOT going to let me into his backyard.

If you help train him with a harness, he will take you places. Nice pose, good shot!

Now about eating Oz' national bird...that will be a good one for the Thanksgiving table instead. It can feed a crowd better than 2 turkeys.

I like that. I still find it hard to get a good selection of a part of a subject like that.

Izzie talking about eating emu (which I have done once) do you know the trick question: Which state has the most emus?

But you've got to catch one first. There's a song down here about an old man emu that can run the pants off a kangaroo.

I know Australia but that is not a State...If I have to guess it will be Queensland...not Tassie or King Island...

John Williamson...one of my favourite Aussie country singer. I have a few of his records in my collection...he has been John Williamson since I can remember...and of course Slim Dusty. Love him too. But John sang that song about the emu...it's cute...Another John I like is John Farmham...

Nice composition, Grahame. Emu, barbed wire, blue sky, brown earth = Australia.

Yes Graham, very good shot. He looks like he means business doesn't he.

By the way, Izzie's actually an Aussie but I'm not sure about her taste in music. But I suppose all the girls used to swoon over Johnny Farnham didn't they.

The answer is Texas has the most emus. However, that data might be out of date now as the fad for breeding them in Texas is apparently over.

Really? Were they planning to stuff their turduckens inside the emu?

My taste in music is a little bit on the classical side but when I really want to drown out my living here in the US, I take out my Aussie recordings, DVDs, CD or 33 and listen and sing to them. I missed Australia as you may be able to tell and I am glad there are a few of you here still talking to me...

Thanks for the info...maybe they still are because the ones in Kansas came from Texas...

It comes to something Graham, when people start posting selfies on the site! Nice shot. Evil looking b...r though. Can they be aggressive?

No need to be aggressive with a face like that.

This shot comes together nicely with the emu and wire fence, plus the OOF pasture and barn in the background. Did you consider lightening the shadows on the side of the emu's face, I just think that might be nice if it was a little lighter as it is the center of attention in the picture.
