The conversion looks darn good to me, Clive. It is a fabulous shot. If you don't have software to give your big guy some more headroom, maybe you know someone who does?
Although I do not use Lightroom, I think just adding to the canvas at the top doesn't really need a sophisticated software. I like the conversion, Clive -- I just like the coloured version more because there you can see the distinction between the water and the land. Just a thought...
Nicely done, conversion looks fine.
Very nice Clive
I think the conversion works quite well (elephants tend to be fairly monochrome anyways), but I still prefer the original colour version. If it were my shot, I might be tempted to dial back the contrast a bit; the shot is a touch too hard for my taste.
Thanks all for the comments. I pondered about the contrast late last night and the last adjustment I made was levels, maybe I should have left it as it was, I will revisit. Sometimes I like it and other times I think it is a bit too much. I also prefer the colour version, but do agree that elephants make great B&W subjects, lots of texture in the skin.
I think the color version had something over the B&W version. I'm just putting in my $00.02 but I would be happier to present the color version.
I didn't see the color version for comparison. The B/W works well. I'll let more knowledgeable people speak to the nuances of B/W conversion. The composition is really excellent. Nice job.
