Because your title says 'deep purple' , I'm not going to ask why the sky and the water are purple colouredNice reflections, I like the light on the trees.
Sorry Binnur, a Freudian slip on my part thanks for spotting it. I should explain I uploaded an incorrect version, which as you quite rightly noticed had a colour cast issue.
The title I used was a bit of a play on words, when I was making the image I was having a conversation with a couple who were standing next to me about the mist on the water in the mid ground.
We all at the time knew and discussed that there was a recording called "Smoke on the Water" but...neither of the parties were absolutely sure which band recorded it. The band in question was Deep Purple, hence my choice of title with the alternative in my original text. Sorry for any confusion I caused. Hopefully this is the correct version uploaded via my Flickr photostream.
This one is much better Peter![]()
Yes .. the correct shot as you call it is so much better. I was actually comparing the two. In the first one what caught my attention is the sun in the water and I noticed a little yellowish cast in it. In the correct upload, it seems to correct that. I like the scene and the mood of the whole shot.
Oh btw, Ian Gillian (sp?) composed the song. At the time, the casino where they were doing the song, went up in flames.![]()

Striking, and I think strong compositionally. Color pattern across sky suggests polarizer (light-dark-light) but maybe not, and anyway, I find it adds interest. Nice.
Beautifully composed, I like how the sun it'self is shown not in the sky but in the reflection, and the scenery is fantastic.
Thanks you Nick, the sun was a big problem with this image, I was always told never shoot in to the sunso I was reluctant to make this image and I kept overlooking it when we returned home. Probably because in the raw file there is flare between the sun reflection and the bottom of the frame which, by some fluke in my PP it has been diminished a little

Thanks everyone for taking time to look and comment on this image, I appreciate them all.
Izzie thanks for the information, I think I should share a little bit of information with you as well. One of the lead singers (he replaced Ian Gillan) was born about ten miles away from where I'm sitting typing this.
He (Dave Coverdale) played in a number of local bands prior to going off to the big city to find his fame and fortune. He wasn't the only local who became famous (some would say) for their singing voice. At least two others spring to mind, Chris Rea, Paul Rodgers; oh and of course little old menot!

You can show your age any time you like, makes me feel better!
I recognise the song title, the group & the place! So all good & a very nice image indeed, the play on words one is great, well done.
Nice composition Peter. I particularly like the way you have deliberately only included the reflection of the sun. The trees and the sky have a bit of an HDR look about them. Natural??
Hi John
Thanks for looking and taking time to comment. In answer to your question regarding HDR, it may be the way I processed the image, or if I had a polariser on when I made the image. I suppose either of those may be giving you the HDR impression.
Looking again at the image at the bottom left I can see weeds under the water surface, so I suspect that I did have a polarising filter fitted. However I'm certain I didn't use any HDR conversions when processing it as, I have only recently processed it.
