    More Gulls... C&C Welcomed

    I shot this the same day I shared the other gull picture (and if you viewed that one, you know I went crazy with my settings, so not sharing those again ;-) Loving my new gear!

    Pretty good for a backlit image, looks like a blue cast on birds, how was image processed?

    I like the context provided by your composition and depth of field. The position of the bird about to land is also great.

    Notice that the bright white areas of the birds lack detail. Carefully select those areas and then apply a really strong reverse S-curve to them to bring out the detail. If you're not familiar with the kind of curve I'm referring to, I've shown it below.

    Better yet, take a look at Joe's bird photography and the light that works best. This is very tough light for shooting birds with so much white in their body.

    Agreed about the blue cast but I disagree that the image is back lit. It's strongly side lit.

    Agreed, the lighting does help define the shape of the birds.

    Thanks Mike. I have just started working with S curves, but have never applied one so strong. I'll have to give it a go.
