Woman sitting at the Kamakhya Temple

I loved the way the colours worked here. This woman dressed in yellow was sitting on the warm-toned steps beside the temple. I left a lot of negative space on the left side of the image. Normally, I would leave negative space on the side she is looking towards, but there were other people in the shot, so I went the other way. I find it still works quite nicely as il balanced out the scene.

It works wonderfully. And what a striking looking woman.

The colour and tone of her dress and the stonework are, to me, in wonderful harmony.

The people living in the very north-eastern part of India have more of an Asian rather than South Asian appearance.

Geographically, they live quite close to China (i.e. Tibet) and Myanmar (Burma) than they do to, say Delhi or Kolkata, so not surprisingly, they look more like the people from those parts of the world.

Placing the negative space on the left is yet another proof that sometimes guidelines are seemingly meant to be broken.

My take is that the apparel probably hasn't changed in decades if not longer. The temple steps might be centuries old. Yet the cell phone is such a nice contrast to the other things that don't change.

As much as I like the way the colors work, I also like this image converted to monochrome using a red filter. Also with a sepia tone added to it.

Very nice Manfred Is she injured? There is something like a scar on her forehead.

Done. Added red filter and did the monochrome conversion (with sepia toning) in Nik Silver Efex 2.

The origins of this temple are in the 8th Century AD, although the current incarnation dates back to the 17th Century, so the steps have been there a bit longer than the cell phone.

No, that is the red paint that a priest applied as a blessing at the temple.

Nice looking woman...I like the colour version better, to me all the textures of her surrounds and even the curves of her dress lends well to the picture. Besides the yellow and the muted tone of the wall matches well too. Excellent shot.

Gorgeous image! My preference is for the colour version because the colours are so striking.
