Gary, if you need a copyright, a subtle one works best as it doesn't detract from the image, particularly if the copyright is somewhat transparent.

If you are trying to advertise for business, make sure your web page is in the copyright area of the image metadata so that folks can find you.

If you are trying to protect you images from being used by others without your consent, the standard laws concerning copyright will be in your favor should you decide to take someone to court. For those that don't obey the law, the logo has absolutely no effect as it is so simply removed.

If you would like additional feedback as this has been discussed many times before at CiC, take a look here (and elsewhere in this forum).

I'm a hobbyist that is trying to pick up some photography work on the side, so I can maybe at sometime be a professional photographer, or at least make some cash to support my photography habit. I'm just getting serious and I haven't gotten to the website phase yet.

Gary, you might want to consider what kind of photography you would like to make money doing. For example, if you were doing portraiture and/or weddings, you would want to put your copyright/watermark on those. Why those? Because they are images that deal with specific people and the watermark discourages them from making copies without paying you for them.

For general images being posted for feedback as you learn the skills needed to market your images, the watermarks generally won't help (unless, perhaps, the purpose of the image is to get feedback specifically on the watermark). Hope this helps!
