Walk About Town
Went for a little walk about town with a D700 and S-M-C Takumar 28mm f/3.5.
Old Northern Pacific Depot.
Door to the, uh, Baggage Room of the Depot.
St. Patrick's Cathedral.
Western Heritage Center formerly the library with Frederick Billings standing out front.
Empty old used camera store.

Re: Walk About Town
Steve...nice series here. You should take more walks. I don't know but the first image could have been shot on a different angle, I think...I like #2 best of all. #3 is ruined by that fly-away rubbish up the tree near the window but overall, it is a good shot. I like the light at the top of the structure. It would have been nice to have taken a shot of Mr. Billings too. And the last one is the trend of the most street malls -- empty stores. Shame...but that is real life.

Nice series, would have liked to see the inside of that camera store.

Re: Walk About Town
Thanks Izzie, John, and Binnur. The Depot was mostly lit from behind putting the front in the shade. I wanted to have the old boxcar in the image too. I'll go back and have another go. The used camera store is just an empty shell now. When it was open there were hundreds of dusty old cameras and lenses. I missed the closing and any good deals they might have had. Probably just as well as I would have been much poorer.
Here's old Freddie from an earlier walk.

Re: Walk About Town
Nice series Steve. I like your cathedral shot and was struck by the fact that the season helped you out here with the bare branches...the shot would have been much harder to get effectively with leaves on the trees
I also really like the shot of the camera store and wonder if you have a version that is shifted slightly to the left. I'm thinking that edge of the frame on the right as it stands leads your eye out of the image so if you cropped there and had more sidewalk on the left? Another option would be to have is more centered so you saw sidewalk on both sides?
I also think that both of these shots would look great in black & white, particularly the camera shop.

Re: Walk About Town
Good clear bright shots.
The cathedral is possibly a bit too 'square on' but for me, those trees sufficiently break up the 'squareness'.

Re: Walk About Town
Steve...is that a No Loitering or No Littering sign...I can't make that one out even if I zoomed in...Ignore me...I am just being a petty woman at this time of the day.. Anyway, you should show us more of your surrounds. I have only been to the coal mining areas during autumn to go fossicking and the rest had only been on passing through...Montana and Wyoming are beautiful places but too cold to live in.

Re: Walk About Town
Steve, it's the Cathedral for me as well. Shane and Geoff make a couple of good points about the trees and of course the season has given you that clarity in the sky. Normally seen as uninteresting but in this case the blue compliments the orange brickwork beautifully.

Re: Walk About Town
Thanks Shane, Geoff, Izzie, and John for your comments. I'll head back downtown and try some different angles on the buildings and post them up in a new thread.
