    Birds from yesterday morning...

Bird Photography is like playing baseball, sometimes your strike out and sometimes you get a hit. Yesterday was a hit. These are a few of the images I captured yesterday morning at Circle B Bar Reserve in Polk County, Florida.

Green Heron... Nikon D7000, Nikon 80-400mm F/4.5-5.6 VRII AF-S ED shot at 400mm (600mm FF), 1/1600 F/5.6, Matrix Metering +1 EV ISO 2000, Post processed in Lightroom 5 and Photoshop Elements 10

    Birds from yesterday morning...

    Tri-colored Heron... Nikon D7000, Nikon 80-400mm F/4.5-5.6 VRII AF-S ED shot at 400mm (600mm FFE), 1/1600 F/5.6, Matrix Metering +1 EV ISO 900, Post processed in Lightroom 5 and Photoshop Elements 10

    Birds from yesterday morning...

Osprey... Nikon D7000, Nikon 80-400mm F/4.5-5.6 VRII AF-S ED shot at 400mm (600mm FFE), 1/1600 F/5.6, Matrix Metering +1 EV ISO 720, Post processed in Lightroom 5 and Photoshop Elements 10

    Birds from yesterday morning...

Little Blue Heron... Nikon D7000, Nikon 80-400mm F/4.5-5.6 VRII AF-S ED shot at 400mm (600mm FFE), 1/640 F/5.6, Matrix Metering +1 EV ISO 1600, Post processed in Lightroom 5 and Photoshop Elements 10

    Birds from yesterday morning...

    Red-bellied Woodpecker... Nikon D7000, Nikon 80-400mm F/4.5-5.6 VRII AF-S ED shot at 400mm (600mm FFE), 1/640 F/5.6, Matrix Metering +1 EV ISO 400, Post processed in Lightroom 5 and Photoshop Elements 10

I am posting two images because they capture a interesting behavior. The woodpecker finds an dead tree with cracks and brings acorns to the dead tree placing them in the cracks to feed on at a later time.

Yep, but I bet the guys who work at their craft to be as good as they can be, get more hits than the others. What we're seeing here is the sort of skill that comes from dedication and practice. You just don't turn up and produce images of this quality. Great stuff.

Great shots... They just might convince me to try some bird photography... Don't think that I would match these though!

Great shots, Joe, as usual. All nice but, if picking a favourite, it would be the blue heron. Cheers,

All wonderful but my favourites are the Blue Heron and the last Woodpecker for the adorable factor in spades.

Nice set, Joe. The little blue and pileated wp are tops IMO.

I like the last one best -- it looks funny having a bad hair day...

Always great shots Joe. In really beginner terms, can you e plain the metering? +1 means you lightened it, and was that to get feather details?
    Thanks,
    Nancy
