    Cattails in the ice

I decided to take a break from going through my trip images and my daughter and I drove out into the country, just north of the city to take some pictures during "golden hour".

Weather wise, we are still in conditions where the temperatures drop below the freezing point at night, but rise to just above freezing during the daytime. There is ice that has formed on the Ottawa River, in places where the water is fairly still, but the faster moving parts are still open. We ran across this small stand of cattails in the water close to shore where there was a thin layer of ice. The nice glow of the setting sun gave off a wonderful warm colour to these reeds. The transition to from ice to water to distant shoreline was quite indistinct.

The scene was quite simple, but starkly beautiful.

You have shown the best part of winter.

The quality of light, the special warm brown of vegetation and the reflective qualities of snow and ice.

    Very nice.

Quite a contrast from your recent posts, Manfred. It is amazing how much beauty there is to see in simple natural settings if one but pays attention. Nicely seen.

Simple is best. Lovely warm glow which is unusual for this sort of scene.

Well seen and captured Manfred. I am glad you weren't tempted to centre them in the frame.

A diversion from the norm is quite pleasant and more fulfilling though you have to go back and tackle what you left behind for now...very neat shot.
