Bollywood experience in Jaipur
One of the places that the "Lonely Planet" travel guide recommends visiting is the Raj Mindar movie theatre in Jaipur, Rajastan. So who were we to argue?
We took in a three hour Bollywood movie called "Happy New Year", sort of a caper flick roughly modeled on "Ocean's 11". I wouldn't put these image into my usual genre, but it was fun; lots of audience participation - they cheered when the hero was on the screen and booed the villain. The movie itself was all in Hindi, with a few English terms; like "six-pack abs". Needless to say, we were able to follow the plot quite nicely in spite of not understanding a word of Hindi. Nicely said, there wasn't a lot (any?) depth to the movie; pure entertainment for the masses; special effects, music and dancing, heros, villains, etc. Apparently, Bollywood cranks out one new movie a week (release day is always on Friday).
Lots of other people were there with cameras taking pictures of the interior as well. Something we would never ever see at home.
On to the images!
This shot is the outside of the Raj Mindar movie theatre.
A shot of the lobby.
Some interior wall and ceiling details. The light colours were changing continuously while we waited for the movie to start.
If you ever find yourself in Northern India and have three plus hours to spare, doing what we did would be something to consider.
