    Sunrise on the Black Mountains

Here is another image I have been doing a bit of PP on today, not sure if I'm happy with the final image. Maybe I've just been staring at it too long

    C&C welcomed...

Nice effort, good treatment of the sky.

Matt - I wonder if what you are having issues with is the relative brightness of the sky versus the scene behind the hills which are in shadow. It just does not have the same "pop". I just ran the image through a couple of filters with Nik Color Efex 2 to bring out a bit more foreground detail, to see what that does.

Always a problem. This has turned out well though. The highlight is a bit bright for me but the lead into the comp works particularly well.

Nice shot Matt with great light. A few things I'd look at (based on my taste of course which may not align with yours !)

Adjust the colour of the bright yellow area towards red

Clone out the really bright blown area of the sky using adjacent cloud detail

Try a crop of the right hand side just at the right hand edge of the stream where it hits the bottom of frame. This might give a bit more balance to the composition without losing the lead-in lines of the stream.

Hi Matt, very nice shot again IMO the sky is a bit too much in the composition, I would crop some of it and I would do something about the very bright part of the sky (reducing highlights selectively, changing color, cloning might help as Dave suggests). I like the slightly dark FG but I would brigthen a bit where the water meets bushes.

Thanks for the views/comments everyone, I think I'll crop the sky and try cloning out the blow highlights of the sun and see how that looks.

    I'll post the result later

    Manfred:

I do prefer your edit, I will keep that in mind when I make some adjustments later.

I am with you Matt...I like Manfred's edit in your shot lessening the brightness of the sky.

Very nice and best so far. I like that you didn't push the yellow green in the foreground as far as Manfred did in his useful re-do. I looks quite natural as you have treated it.

You know what I like in this image that you are working with -- the reflection of the sun on the mountain and the water and stones...they are really great to work with but I will be the same as you in that if I have to work and rework to my satisfaction, after a while I'd get too tired looking at the same old thing again and again... well, almost blinded I should say...you did a good job in this last edit, Matt....and not as flat.

Much improved! The foreground, middle ground and background all seem to be pulling in the same direction in this version.
