I have only seen this type of moth 4 times in 15 years. This time with my camera. The best shots (200 taken) were macro or super macro up close and personal. I was able to get within 1/2 inch for some of the shots.

originally she was sitting on the banister of our front stairs. I took some decent shots but she was not in a particularly photogenic area. After an hour or so the ants found her so I thought i had best move her. This is where she ended up. More shots to come. Her legs and feet are unusual to put it mildly.

I think I have only seen this once in my life when I was young and it is fascinating because while growing up, my grandmother always told me not to touch butterflies because the dust in the feather will blind me. I am glad you took a shot of this one. Good memory...

Nice capture of wonderful creature - same family (saturnidae) as the big cecropia moths we have here in eastern North America and with strikingly similar markings, but these are significantly larger (11-15cm vs. up to 25 cm). Thanks for sharing this great encounter.

Aah Brian, hindsight being what it is...ya might have chosen a better milieu for a rare creature like that.
    They are quite nice though.

This may sound a little corny but it really is a privilege to share this gift of allowing us to photograph her.
