Extremely attractive and fine image. I'd prefer more space to right and bottom for better balance. Also, personally I'd prefer the background be moved a lot further away so it becomes more blurred and so the texture pattern enlarges. The smaller texture shapes are distracting to me.

Plus 1 for me as well. Black backgrounds set off blossoms very nicely.

My only concern is that now we'll see a rash of black backgrounds until the fad dies down!

Which is why there's a trace of green in my last one.

    Re background:
Till last year I Always shot natural light, natural bg, rarely used flash. And it was often difficult to find a good bg.
Though I could appreciate a black bg, I was never very fond off it.
Late spring I started using flash with critters. I got more darker bg (due to inexperience with flash), and that came out well sometimes...
Nowadays with indoor photography, I begin to like the black bg more and more....Iff that is a good evolution or not I don't know...
Finding a nice bg is also one of my goals for My Orchid project

Must admit I like the first one more - the black looks more 'chocolate box' shot I would agree about the background being moved further back to be more OOF but having said that its a good complimentry colour so works well for me - a really nice shot so well done you - but a very well done to your lady for providing you with such fab subjects each year

Rudi...a well stocked fabric shop is my source for backgrounds.

    Hi,

I like this arched-form very much. The orange background is much more pleasant than the black one for my eyes. The orange one makes me think more about the picture as whole - the room where it is and so on.
We always have orchids like those here but I haven't managed taking a good picture like yours yet =D
