    Message In A Bottle

I sometimes need to go through the process of posting an image for others to see in an effort to become more objective in seeing it myself. This is one such image. C&C solicited and always appreciated.

    Re: Message In A Bottle

Hi Andrew, the concept works well but has a 'something is not quite right' feel about it. Perhaps it's the thought that the bottle appears to be in a stream and very unlikely to avoid breakage tumbling over rocks? Perhaps it is the concept that 'stuck in the mud' the message won't go anywhere? Perhaps it is the concept that the bottle would float and not sink to the bottom?

The 'message in a bottle' theme is well worth exploring further!

John - Thank you for the comment.

Frank - As always I appreciate your point of view. The bottle was photographed laying in shallow water in a tidal stream. Perhaps the 'something not quite right' feeling comes from my effort to make it a bit dream like?

Perhaps the 'problem' is simply that it isn't obviously something lying on the bed of a stream?

    Would another title 'improve' things?

Although I don't know what it looked like before applying a 'dream-like' change, I don't see a problem with the presentation per se Andrew. It is much what I might expect for an object lying in shallow water with sediment washed over it and having sat there for some time. I also like the reflection on the surface of the water with the appearance of the blue sky peeping through dark clouds.

It is a good dreamy catch and PP even if the title belongs to a place like the ocean's edge with the cork intact and a a message or a piece of paper inside indicating that it came from some faraway place. If there is a message in that bottle, it would have been wet and gone by now...in short, wrong title, very nice shot.

    Thank you Izzie.
Perhaps I should have gone with something like "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy?"

I like this image very much, Andrew. When I first opened the thread, the image popped onto my screen before the text arrived and pushed it lower, and I thought, Oh, Andrew has applied a texture to this shot. But that is not the case. Instead I think you have captured a scene with a natural texture layer - the water. I think this is a great idea and if I had the opportunity I would experiment with it more.

After looking the bottle for several minutes, I have to ask, is that a bit of selfie in there too, or am I starting to imagine things? The shadow on the top side of the bottle looks like it could be a head, and then there are two short diagonal shadows on the lower side which might be forearms and hands. Or maybe it is someone inside the bottle trying to get out... Ah, see your image has inspired my imagination. Well done.

No rhyme nor reason for your imagination too -- that someone inside the bottle hasn't quite work out that there is no cork in the bottle that's keep it in?
