Last night I went to Blauklippen wine estates twilight Christmas market, lots of craft stalls,even more food stalls and wonderful wine. Live music was provided by these musicians, mixed coloured lighting meant conversions to B&W were the best option that and it was quite dark conditions.

Some nice images taken under difficult shooting conditions.

I think your call on going B&W works quite well compositionally with these images. I also see you have run into the same issue that I do when I shoot musicians; the darn microphone always seems to be in the wrong place for a clean shot...

I think the conversion to black and white works very well, Neil. Usually with coloured images on a dark stage settings the mixture of different lights blow the shots taken. These are very good. I like the comp of #1 best. Unusually high ISO...may I ask if you use flash and how far are you from the musicians? Just curious...

Hello Izzie, I sadly do not own a flash for my Nikon D3s, I was about 4 metres away from these guys, did not want to block the audiences with my backside in the way! Lens was the Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8, I wanted to make sure they were sharp so used a shutter speed of 1/320 secs at f/2.8.
