I think most non-photographers, and even some photographers couldn't tell any difference. For example, people looking at their new wedding shots are going to be swayed by the emotion of what they are seeing/reliving - they won't be pixel peeping, and wouldn't know what to look for anyway.

It's important that manufacturers continue to develop better technology as we all gain from that in the long run - for example getting smaller and lighter cameras that still produce excellent image quality. But it's a long process, and for me, getting too concerned about every development seems unhelpful. If any photographer continues to improve their personal photography skills that will probably count for more than anything else. There are always good cameras and lenses available, even at a reasonable budget.

Of course, non- photographers can't tell much difference in what they're seeing, what's good about it, or what's not. It's up to the artist to make sure it is quality.

Obviously, the 7D mark II has been a popular birding camera, though I have seen here on this forum some concern about the IQ, I think. I have also seen suggested that the Nikon D7100 would be upgraded to match it, as it is a DX with many pro features, only it's burst shooting speed is limited to 6 fps. It might be an ideal camera for me if the D7100 was upgraded in burst shooting, and the pixel count to 16 mp, not saying 24 is totally too much, but who needs more than 16? And I'd rather have the quality.

Jeremy, no argument from me about shutter count... I'm just aware that its very high.... I've worked my 7D pretty hard.

If it fails (and I've never managed to work a camera to death yet even though I do try), I'm more inclined to have the camera fixed, since I'm no way sure my photography would be significantly, if at all improved, by the acquisition of the MK11.

That said, the little boy in me loves the idea of a shiny new toy with all the 'latest' gadgets....

It might be an ideal camera for me if the D7100 was upgraded in burst shooting, and the pixel count to 16 mp, not saying 24 is totally too much, but who needs more than 16? And I'd rather have the quality.

That is obviously what Nikon thought when they added the "1.3x" crop feature - which gives 15 MP images with a total crop factor of 2 (rounding), which gives a little more reach on telephoto lenses.

The smaller files also SLIGHTLY improve the buffer and fps issues. I think they say 7 fps in that mode. I often use it when shooting distant birds.

It doesn't address all your issues, but helps a bit on some.
Offered "FWIW" - I'm not saying you should change your mind and buy one on the strength of this knowledge

On shutter counts my Nikon 5700 from around 2004 has recently reached 11,000 so SC is the least of my concerns

I only have what I have because my father died and left me some money to start my own business at 57, I have drempt of owning good gear, but to this time I had 2, D7000s and for sports they were great

In fact if you look at London Camera Exchange as I do daily and have do for years (for a bargain) Sony are THE most sold cameras second hand and then CANON, one assumes because people finally realise that Nikon is what they should have bought and are selling their kits to get the best, Nikon

That WILL be interesting

Though (and I know this doesn't apply to you) too many people get hung up on sensors, and forget that D4s money buys you more, sealing, 400,000+ shutter counts, mag alloy 100% body etc, I use my camera in pouring rain

But the lines are getting far too blurred now. Once you had, (an exageration) a beginners range, am/pro and then pro, now for just a few pounds more you can go up and up and up the range !!!!!!!!!!
