Hi Ernie I prefer the secon edit in post #17, I think the one in #18 is too bright . IMO lens flare doesn't add to the image. I would also crop most of the dark clouds to put the emphasis more on the FG and lovely sunset. You would also come close to the 1/3 rule this way .

Thanks for the feedback. I will work the lens flare and cropping on my next edit. This has been a great learning experience.

Hi everyone! I hope everybody had happy holidays!

Many of you expressed that the image I have been working on should be cropped and that I should do something about the lens flare.

Cropping was easy. Removing the lens flare was not. I tried several different things to varying degrees of effectiveness. I finally settled with simply cloning out the flare. I'm not entirely happy with it, especially when viewing at 100%, but maybe with some practice I can get better. The picture is below and as always your thoughts and ideas are welcome.

Very effective result Ernie! You now have an interesting and complementary foreground, sky, and sun. Looks like a great place to wander and explore.

Normally I would want to play with the cropping to get the sun off dead center but the light patterns seem to effectively negate the need for that so I would leave it as is. Great job!

As far as I know , you can use your hand or your hat as a shelter above your lens to prevent the flare
