Christmas at the U. S. Library of Congress

I got very, very lucky with this photo. Not only is it made from two photos, which meant that the two had to be aligned exactly the same, but not one foot of my tripod was touching anything.

    Merry Christmas, everyone!

Unclear on the use of tripods, Mike?

I had never considered doing a Christmas scene in B&W as I tend to find that the colours are such an important element to the decorations. I might consider trying a conversion, as I'm fighting with some of the images I took over the past week to see if that helps.

That being said, I can't help wondering what the coloured version looks like.

The three legs of the tripod were straddled over a marble railing. The legs weren't long enough to touch the floor.

I also would normally think the colors are important. However, this tree had so many light bulbs that it primarily displays only two colors -- the green tree and the yellowish bulbs. The colors in the marble floors don't complement the tree and prevented the patterns in the floor from standing out so nicely as they do in the monochrome version. The background made of marble is mostly off-white, so it looks much the same in a monochrome version as a color version.
