    Duck blind views

Today, I was out solo on a lake that I duck hunt. It was cloudy when I got there. The clouds broke and a hazy sun shone through for a bit. A couple of good rain showers came through and then, the magic happened. Towards the very end, the sun finally poked through the stubborn clouds and presented me with a fleeting moment to get these shots. And by fleeting, I mean when I snapped these two pics, that was it. I didn't have time for a third before the clouds obscured the sun again. The colors in these pics are not enhanced. I almost had to tone them down but decided to leave them as is. BTW, I got luckier at taking photos than I did with the ducks.

Nice pics, thanks for sharing. That location looks absolutely superb for waterfowl photography. I would die for access to that spot...

Thanks. This is a state Wildlife Management Area. It's open to duck hunting in the winter and opens back up in the spring to public access. There aren't that many ducks around when it is fully open to the public, though. It's still a cool place for wildlife photography because you never know what you will see. For example, I watched a river of geese all afternoon as they were flying over me and landing on the refuge that was nearby. As I was walking back to my truck, I found an area where I couldn't see the ground. The reason being there were so many geese, all I could see was grey and black. I knew they would start flying because they were so close to the path I was was walking on. As I was reaching in my backpack for my camera, they all lifted off at once. I only had one shot of it before they scattered. The noise was deafening. These are the reasons I always carry my little p&s (waterproof) camera.

Beautiful lighting there. I'm still dreaming of a chance to get to one of the big migration flyways and see some action like you speak of.
