Surreal Sydney Sunset

This is 8 portrait shots from left to right stitched into 1 panorama. The shots are taken looking east across Darling Harbour which is a small arm of Sydney Harbour. The result is a slightly surreal effect with slightly distorted buildings and the sunset colours adding to the look. To me it looks vaguely similar to a theatre stage show backdrop.

Nicely done, it does have that effect or similar to Word document clipart. It may not be your desire for this image, but I could see some 3-D effects applied to portions of the protruding (the ship and pier) sections of the image.

It is the ship and the pontoon bridge which are mostly giving that 3D sort of look. If I block out part of the left side, with a piece of card, the rest of the scene reverts to a more normal 2D image.

What I find interesting about this is that the aspect ratio does not require a panorama and that the slices from the eight shots used must be very narrow. As well as the ship being very close compared with the buildings on the far side of the harbour, the 3D effect is caused by the different camera angles as you go from left to right.

Hi Tony. Actually with my camera and lens collection it does need a panorama. This was taken with a 15-85mm lens at 15mm on a 1.6 crop Canon camera. The total angle (FoV) covered in the shot from left to right is about 115 degrees. From what I can find on the net a 10mm wide angle lens on a APS-C Nikon with a slightly larger sensor than the Canon will only give a 98 degree field of view across the wide side of an image. http://www.hugha.co.uk/NodalPoint/Le...le-of-View.htm

Also the 15mm lens in landscape mode didn't have the vertical FoV to cover from the pontoon in front to the sky above.
