Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial

My wife and I played tourist again today in the Washington, D. C. area where I have lived since 1972 and she has lived since 1958. Though the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial opened to the public in August 2011, this was our first visit to it.

Naturally, my wife got the best photo, which is the first one. (Post-processed by me.) For a very different look, I took the second one.

One can certainly appreciate the skill of the sculptor. Nicely done.

Your wife is certainly very good at catching good compositions Mike Very nice images. I like the PP work very much. I have got the Nik Software now and I started reading Michael Freeman's book about B&W Photography. I think I will need your help a lot to improve my PP skills for B&W conversions as you are certainly very good at it.

I like the Ansell sky of the 2nd shot. It enhances the imposing presence of the figure.

Thank you, Greg. That's exactly why I chose that interpretation of the scene.

Mike, as you said you have two very different interpretations here. As a pair I think that they are a great set! I love the sense of scale that your wife achieved in her composition (the positioning and expressions of the two visitors provide a lot of context too) and then your image where we get a close up of the statue itself. Nice work!

You guys make a great photographic team

Both beautifully photographed and post processed.

I too adore the sense of scale captured by your wife but I have to say that I especially adore your image - light, creative composition, detail - a work of art!

First one puts everything nicely into scale but I do like the angle on the second image. Very dramatic.
