    CS3 Extended Problem

Well, I bit the bullet and tried to reinstall my old copy of CS3 Extended. Went well until I tried to initiate the app after the installation. Got the following error message:

Licensing for this product has stopped working.

You cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling this product, blah, blah, blah.

Went the deinstall and reinstall route. Received the same error message.

At no time did it ask for my license (I do have it).

Any ideas on how to work around this problem?

I can always go the GIMP route but I prefer the performance advantage of using CS3 Extended.

    Thanks

Have you tried doing a cold reboot between the uninstall and reinstall of the program?

The registry modifications from the uninstall may not take effect unless you do a power down and reboot, and this may be what is giving you the message. Try it and see if that works, if not, a note to Adobe Tech Support may be in order, although I'm not sure how much luck you are going to get with such an old version of the software.

Hi, Just a thought but are you installing on the same operating system that it worked on before?
Many softwares do not work on the newer OS.
Did you deactivate CS3 when you removed it?

Don't remember if I deactivated it. Will try the cold start route.

    Re: CS3 Extended Problem

Ran into almost this exact same problem a couple of weeks ago Stan.

Only it was with a very old version of PSE. If I’m not mistaken I got just about the same error message.

Russell hit this nail on the head. At least for me. I had long since upgraded my OS, which was why PSE stopped working. I don’t use it much so I didn’t notice. Until I tried to use it! No go! I tried clearing prefs and everything. I tried to uninstall/reinstall.

The product is so old and support stopped for it so long ago that it won’t happen on the OS upgrade.

    Choices:
    Forget the old PSE.
Go back to the latest previous OS that the old PSE is compatible with and stay there.

Tried the restart, No Joy. I need the CS3 Extended in order to perform stacking with "Median Mode"; SNR improvement. Probably go GIMP since there is NO CHANCE of getting help from Adobe.

Probably about as much chance of getting help from Microsoft if you were looking to install Word 2000 on Windows 8.1!

    Re: CS3 Extended Problem

I ran into this a few years ago - Adobe support helped me pretty quick - they should be able to help you. Here's a thread with activity earlier this year that should give you hope.

edit - I just remembered what they did - after confirming my SN they gave me a link to a version of the software (along with a new SN) that did not require activation. It was all done over the net at their support site.

    Re: CS3 Extended Problem

I detest that Adobe cuts off support for their products. I also uninstalled CS3 and could never get it running again. I called Adobe and they said (this was about the time that they introduced CS5) hat the program was "too old" and that I should upgrade to the newer version...

    Re: CS3 Extended Problem

Well good luck with CS3 - I had several major failures with it when doing urgent tasks, and adobes solution always was to uninstall and reinstall.

when you uninstall it is then necessary to run a cleanup programme (for all CS and CCS versions) which removes registry options, and also to remove any firewall blocks recorded in the windows system32/drivers/etc folder. I usually block asap adobe software calling home as it takes ages doing so and programmes often dont load untill checks completed.

The cleanup programme can be downloaded from adobes website - the address is so long even adobe tell you to search for it, and you need the right version for your version of the software.

Russ: Thank you, got it to work. There is a Mac version too. It even remembered my license number on start up.
