Hard to imagine that folks used to live in houses like this. Wonder what's/who's lurking inside those old brick walls?
Your timing for this shot was perfect. I very much like your choice to capture the image with the leaves fallen off the trees, the sky gloomy gray, and what looks like corn (maybe?) chopped down to reveal the building. Nice capture.
Given the detail in the roof pattern, use of corbels on the main house, and arched windows, I'll bet that these were strikingly impressive structures in their day. Did you ever lookup the history by any chance, Jim?
You've made it look quite cheerful. Nicely captured.
Well ... it is not a halloween shot after all -- just abandoned structure. I would suggest going back and just shooting the main house by itself on all angles possible. I know I would. It looks like an interesting place. The building on the left side looks like a little chapel in its time but without windows, who knows? The other house slightly covering the main house I will presume has been a structure for "other members" of the clan or servants' quarters? There is a lot of story to this picture as a whole. Intriguing and interesting at the same time. Just my thought and feelings. Like Frank, it will be interesting the know the history of the place.
Very interesting buildings, I would try and shoot them at dusk maybe?
+1 to Matt's comment
Oh what a wonderful canvas to work with. The main building at dusk in different weather conditions through the seasons, would be great.
Guys...guys...I now regret writing what I suggested to Jim (Ziggy). I decided to google the mansion and its history and the story and situation is not really good for anyone. The owner is a witch for lack of better word to describe her...so I suggest now that Jim do not do a follow up visit. There are more places, abandoned or not that are better to photograph than put his life (and perhaps livelihood and interest) on the line ... sorry Jim.
Maybe get in a little closer and shoot some to convert to black and whites.
This is great. We have this style of old house around this part of Jersey.
Thanks all for your interest in the Mudhouse Mansion, appreciated.
Did anyone notice the cross hanging down on the main building?
Izzie this one was taken on the long end of the zoom from the road.
Know this place well. Used to go back there in high school many years ago to party.
Fun place to take a first date.
Jim
Just to let everyone know the house was torn down today :-(
It definitely looks spooky. Nicely composed. What no B/W conversion?
Well done, Jim.
Can't believe it, they did tear it down today.
