The lighthouse 'light' being a great example of how little details can make a big difference. I love the sky, getting the most out of foreboding skies is my pet challenge of the month....make that year!
That is great Kay! Sharing what I am learning and keeping notes helps me to perfect the process and learn multiple approaches to solve some of the issues I've encountered.
In this case, I came to realize that the more adjustments I make in Lightroom, the greater the amount of noise I see in the image. Having learned that, next time I'll try getting the look I'm shooting for then go back and reapply just the needed changes to a fresh copy of the original and still keep the noise under control. Hopefully that will work. We'll see.
There are a number of videos available where the look of the sky is enhanced, sometimes dramatically so, in Lightroom. Here is a sample video that you might find interesting Kay, to bring detail out of a bland sky. Although this video happens to use an HDR image, the techniques used on the sky have very little to do with the HDR aspect of the scene. Hope this helps!

Thanks all the info Frank. I haven't gotten around to Lightroom 5 yet. I did use Lightroom 3 and liked it.
Re: Week 5: Photoshop verses Lightroom
Thanks for posting your 'journey'. I use lightroom for most basic adjustments as I find it more intuitive than PSE, but agree with you, PSE just does some other things better, so I have stuck with both, but I'm not into upgrading them every year as Adobe would like us to !

Mark and Kaye, sorry about being so late in responding!
Mark, I upgraded to Lightroom 5 to learn some of the new tools available in 4 and 5 such as the improved Basic Module.
Kaye, I don't see enough improvement in CC over CS5 to warrant a monthly 'tax' to use the features I paid for in CS5. That will likely change down the road but for now, the improvements in Lightroom did entice me to upgrade from 3 to 5.7.
Somewhere I was asked if I had a photo of the inside of the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird cockpit similar to the one in my Avatar. A pilot friend of just sent me this shot.

I am hoping to get back to my Project 52 images soon! :)

William, both of our airplanes have retractable canopies. Isn't it hard to get out of those things which aren't?
