I was wondering what they were Brian.

Other than the short, obvious 'tails' on a swallowtail, I wasn't aware of others that had anything 'back there'.

In our garden this species is the only one with false antenna. I got very lucky with this series. Myra spotted her and she is the biggest one of these I have ever seen. Sadly the only time she opened her wings was when she flitted from perch to perch. I was not quick enough to capture the Robins egg blue upper wing with its dark blue accent.
