The one thing I wonder about in the first image is if the boats on the horizon are just a wee bit too bright? Also when I view the image in the lyte box the edge of the rock face that begins on the left hand side and ends in the middle seems a bit too, sharp? Perhaps it is just the angle and something I've never seen before.
    Thanks Christina.
    I rally appreciate your feedback!
Watching again the picture I agree the boat on the left hand side is too bright. don't know if i'll be able to reduce its light without cloning it out. About the rocks, do you mean they are too sharp and so they catch too much the eye, or they seem unreal?
I didn't do selective sharpening, just a mask on the whole image of 0,8 pixel x 150%, more or less.

    Thank you!

    Week 6

    Again to the pier.
This time with water in the sea, not smoke.
It seems to me that here in CiC the smoky water has not many fans...

    Re: Week 6

Looks good to me, Nicola, particularly the first one. Nice sharply focused surf with plenty of action. The 'lines' of foreground, jetty, surf, coast and cloud all come together to create something of a zigzag view which produces items of interest throughout the scene.

A slight crop from the bottom is something to consider. I'm not saying it would be better and would mean having a more panoramic size ratio, but it would create an alternative view where the jetty and waves have even more impact.

It's so gorgeous I had to comment!

The vertical line along the edge of the rocks appears too sharp/separated from the other rocks, perhaps a little unreal. It gives me the feeling that I might fall off onto the rocks below if I didn't watch my step. That said I've never photographed a sea scape with rocks in the foreground so maybe it is just me. No one else has commented on the it, so I suspect it is just me. Perhaps try sharpening less (% wise) and see what it looks like to you.

Really like this pair Nicola. I like everything about them and would certainly have them on my wall. Sorry I can't be more critical, but I will just study them and learn.

I love the first of these - the breaking waves just add the finishing touch

    A stunning scene.

I wonder if there should have been a tiny bit more foreground? Do the rails seem fractionally tight to the bottom in the centre?

I had the same reaction as Geoff, but otherwise think this is a wonderful image, Nicola. I particularly like the contrast of the geometric flooring with the sea and sky.

    Thank you Geoff and Janis
I'm planning to shoot again this picture, just trying to elevate the point of view: In this case I should gain some more foreground and sea, loosing a portion of the sky. It will work if I'll get a clear sky as it was, otherwise the sky will be too interesting to be lost.

    Week 8

An other sunset picture. It seems to me that this year is particularly prolific for this kind of scenery...
this one a more dramatic one, at least at my eye
    C&C welcome!
Are the persons on the left annoying?

I like this shot. And your shutter speed was fast enough that there is no objectionable mushing of the water. (I'm not a fan of blurred water. ).

As for the people, the person closest to the point of land works well - he's facing the sunset. But, yes, some of the others are distracting especially the person walking away from the sunset.

The horizon is pretty well in the middle but works fine for me.

    Re: Week 8

Hi Nicola, first of all I have to tell you that all your images in this thread are very nice. I have no problem with smoky water. For the image above I think the composition is a bit crowded and because the sky looks lovely I would crop some of the water from the bottom for a plainer look. Then the horizon wouldn't be centered and IMO this would give a better composition. BTW I think the horizon needs levelling.

PS. I forgot to say my opinion about people on the left. I agree with John that they add to the scene.

Nice capture, the people don't interfere with the image, in fact they add to it.

    Re: Week 8

Stunning scene. If there had been just one person and a dog standing a couple of paces further to the right, so they were fractionally more prominent, they would have added something.

As it is, I can accept them but would prefer fewer of them and away from the tree. But that is merely the difference between excellent and perfection.
