I like your tritone here, Mark...it has consistency in colour throughout the photograph. #1 I like for its position in the shot. It reminds me of looking up to the sky and seeing a church bell, only this one is not really that. Just that it leads the eye to examine what this structure is. I am guessing this will be a part of a pump of something machinery. I am not sure but here the urge to look up is there...

I am going to do more playing with tuotones, tritones and quadtones in the future.
    Nice conversions and compositions.

I seem to have missed your week 3 pics- like the black and white here as it focuses on the intricacies of the engineering that once was.

#1 of week 4 is interesting- like it a bit off level- there are probably quite a lot of things you could do with images of that piece, perspective shifts and suchlike, sharpening up some parts and not others, or even getting into strange positions to shoot it.

Again, nice work- I always look forward to seeing your thread every week.

Thanks Izzie, #1 is a old forklift from the late 1930s/early 40s. It was likely form one of the lumber mills that used to be around here.

Thank you Carolyn, you really missed out on week 3s mossy rope, something you don't see every day
Great suggestions on perspective and selectively sharpening/blurring.

I saw the mossy rope! Looks like a bell pull, I can feel it in my hand all soft and squishy. You caught that texture so well. I can't help thinking it would have looked good with some metalwork to set it off. Appreciate in situ it was probably busy and awkward, and was best to blur out the background , but maybe you could steal it and set it up against something else by way of natural v industrial statement...

    Week four.
I like the pulley best but It seems that it could be a tad sharper. It kinda fit the mood

The last one was a pain to get a decent conversion on the colored version has three or for colors of chipped paint some kind of bright. I ended up using the Channel Mixer to get this one.

I think I will try for a better angle tomorrow.

Hey Mark, seems somehow I too missed your previous week. In any event, onto week 4.
#1 I like the pulley, really don't have any suggestions, I think it's good as it.
#2 Got to say, I think I'd like to see more of what the plaque is attached to.
#3 I like it. Rusty old chain, sprocket. Wondering how it would have looked straight on instead of downward.
Enjoy seeing your photos of machinery, I've got a sweet spot for machines, motors and engines.

Mark -- good choice of subjects.
#1 I like this one the way it is, as Jack said.
#2 Another good shot but I cannot make up my mind about it really.
#3 is my favourite of all but you have to remove those three white spots so it won't compete with what you are trying to show.

Post #49, nicely captured and converted. I like those pinpoints of light in #3 but needs its own segment as subject.

Hi Mark, great series! If you want to make keeping track of the weeks easier, you can click on the Go Advanced button and change the title of the posting to something like 'Week 5 - Gears and Pulleys' or something that better defines your presentation for the week at hand.

Mark, what happened to the third shot? It was a chain and sprocket.
