    Snowy Deer

Finally some winter in the Wasatch, over Christmas, and she's feeling it. Comments and criticisms welcome.

I agree -- it is a touch tough to shoot a deer so deep in the snow...but you got it, mate! I love the snow spray on its face and head.

Thanks, John and Benjy. Mighta been held in reserve, William. Glad you like that snow, Iz, she was sticking her head into three feet of snow to find some browse, poor thing and yes, Beth, she gave me a good look. Shots like this have a fair amount of luck involved.

Classic winter shot. Was she really in that deep of snow? I would of thought she would have been yarded up somewhere.
I read Wasatch and I immediately think of Jeremiah Johnson.

It's scenes like this that make it impossible for me to return to hunting. The poor critters have a hard enough time surviving without us trying to blast them with high powered rifles. This capture does a nice job of showing how well camouflaged they are. Well done.

Thanks very much Dan and Jack. Yes this was deep snow - fortunately new and light so some of the good browse underneath was still available. There's no rifle hunting in this part of the Wasatch so they are a bit overpopulated here, which doesn't help. Yes, Jack, Jeremiah Johnson was shot about 30 miles south of here.
