I definitely see what you mean about the crop on the left in week 1 pic, & I think, I might consign week 2's wee effort, to a pothole in the landscape learning curve & move on to week 3

I went out again yesterday, just with my iPhone just to have a walk around & mentally compose without the real camera if that makes sense. And to check where I should return to, when atmosphere & lighting are right...we live lose to westward farmland, so I have a good choice of areas for my landscape learning, that are not too far away.
I have to confess though, I was inside watching a movie last night, when there was a gorgeous pink/purple hue sky before sunset...doh!! I missed it

This tree is known to all photographers in our region.. (well all that I know of)
I tried to do it justice by combining it with storm clouds & some fill flash to get both in the same image.
I am sad that we don't get extreme season hers, as it would be nice to get it with snow as well as with the burnt earth that is around it now.

Hi Kay

Nice work with this image. The composition works well for me because of the way the tree and the clouds interact with each other. B&W works well too I think. You could get a little more "pop" out of this (if you want it) by adjusting the structure and contrast controls in Silver Efex Pro if you have it.

The image brings back memories of an episode of the British TV show "Midsomer Murders" in which there is considerable friction between old school film photographers and the new breed digital guys in a local camera club. The old school people are portrayed as nice but eccentric and the new breed are rather brash. One old school guy takes a photo of the same tree from the same position at the same time every day. Now there's a thought ...

PS Like the way you've split your Project 52 into separate threads for separate weeks. Much more manageable for you and the viewers I think.

Oh my __!!! So beautifully done. I wonder if this will also be good in a subtle sepia-like collaboration, push-pull more on the brownish side? Excellent composition...I really love this one...

Please be careful of what you wish for...you'd like rain every so often to quench the dry soil but not this harsh wintery conditions. My mind cannot fully grasp the coldness of winter I suppose...The other man's grass is always greener I think... Besides in winter people tend to eat more...

When I went to Grand Rapids one time, on the plane my husband showed me clouds coming out of of the ground. He called it something. I forgot what now. But looking at the surroundings, I rather that thing thing stays where it was. I'd rather be at home at the time, warm comfortable and reading in bed or watching tv. Same feeling I have with Colorado. Snow is beautiful but you do not eat the yellow stuff.

Just a thought. Nothing seriously wrong with this image as it is; but a slight crop from the top, and having a different size ratio, does seem to make a 'stronger' and more dramatic scene for me. And with increased 'depth' towards the horizon.

Thanks Dave, I don't have Silver Efex Pro, so I might just have to twiddle a bit more in PS5, I am a great fan of the British TV, does the old guy complain that "he's the only tog in this village"?

I won't be attempting to photoshop snow, that's beyond me! I did think of other crops, with a square, cropping on the left, would get rid of the other foliage, but would lose the cloud pattern. I didn't think of changing the ratio & cropping the top.
