2015 Project 52, first quarter by Brian (JBW)"

I need to prod myself to develop my pp skills as well as my composing skills. Hopefully once a week I will have moved a little further along the path and will post the results here. For those interested here is a link to the home page. And here is my effort to date. it is a combination of Picassa for cropping and hdish, RawTherapee for toning and Gimp for sharpening, framing, colour balance.

This shot is taken with my computer camera. Composition, to me means trying to shown a feeling. In this case if you see a sick tired old man I did it right. if not... try try again

I have started to learn studio skills. I am having significantly more failures than successes but they are all teaching me and in time the ratio of keeper versus round filing cabinet will improve. I am pleased with this pocket watch shot.

Yup! but then you are better at this with practice than I do. A good study of diagonals here and shapes from leaves..

I like the contrast between the shape, colour and texture of the green leaves and the sharpness of the blade-like leaves.

that is exactly what brought me back the next day to take this shot. It just seemed to say 'shoot me'.

Studio work is opening my eyes to many possibilities. Add to that my continual quest for new software and better software skills and the result should be new directions to explore.

When I was primarily in the garden I felt an obligation to be honest to the feelings of the garden. Not that I always succeeded but I did try. Moving into the studio has opened up the opportunity to use photography to explore and express my own feelings. I have absolutely no idea where it will take me but it is interesting.

Maybe just a fraction over exposed in the top right corner?

You are certainly tackling some tricky scenes now, Brian.
