Over the edge II

Another shot of the top of part of the Hog's Back Falls.

The bottom part of the image has the usual RAW processing, but the top part is something that was enhanced using Nik Color eFex 4. This was definitely one of those scenes where the camera did not see the scene in the same way that I did.

The cliff face opposite the shelf the water was flowing over was completely covered in patterns of ice, that were partially obscured by the spray from the waterfall. I brought out the detail of the icy cliff faces and then merged the two layers by masking out the part of the scene on the top of the waterfall. The fast moving water of the Rideau River can be seen on the far right of the image, sandwiched between the top of the waterfall and the ice-covered cliff face.

The ice does have a yellowish colour cast, probably a bit more so than I show in this image. There is a fair bit of detritus (partially decayed organic matter) in northern rivers, that gives the water a tea colour. I suspect this is why the ice is the colour it is.

Nice image, Manfred. It has quite a tranquil feel to it. I have Colour Efex and find it quite useful. I find 'contrast colour range' the best dialogue. Detritus is one of my favorite words!

I like the detail of the wall of ice brought out by the edit Manfred. Makes the pic a lot more interesting. I was there about 10 years ago in the summer. I did not recognise it covered in ice and snow!

Hey, Manfred. I really like the treatment of the FG in the edited version, but IMO the BG in the original is superior. There's just enough of a hint of something back there without drawing away attention. Nice image either way.
