The updates in Creative Suite CC (including Photoshop and Lightroom) are NOT automatic. The user has to authorize the updates and no one forces the users to update, if they don't want to. Users are notified that the updates are available, but one has to authorize the download and install, either by product or through an "update all" option. I personally wait around a week or so from the release before I update. That way any changes the end up causing issues will have been identified by early adopters.

I do the same thing with MS software; no autoupdate, as I have set my updates to manual and I check a few days after the relase before manually installing them.

The only software that does not give me that control is Nik software, which is implemented via a "push" by Google.
