the male is pretty colorful, amazing little creatures. nice job photographing them.
These are quite wonderful Graham. So sharply in focus for such a shallow depth of field. I'd value knowing the lens/focal length and exposure/aperture for these great shots - cannot see in my Exif viewer,
Sooo Lovely; liked them all![]()
The first two are particularly lovely as you have presented images in a less classic/clichéd way - they work so well.
Great detail, beautiful shots.
You captured them well, nice.
Well done Graham, my husband is a fan of these tiny guys as well... He keeps telling me where he sees them when he's out on his bike, but when we return with the camera, they prove elusive. So knowing how tricky it is, you have got some terrific shots of them here.
You did well to catch those little buggers. All three are darn nice shots of them. These look to be on top of shrubbery? When we visited over there they always seemed to be feeding on the ground. But we were mostly around beach areas so probably had to do with the type of plants around and where the bugs were hanging out. Nicely done.
Thanks everyone for the great comments and Kay I'm sorry you haven't managed to capture any yet. As one W. Churchill is reported to have said "Never give up, never give up, NEVER give up".
Mark I don't know why the exif isn't there, I haven't done anything to remove it and when posted in Flickr the exif is shown. Anyhow I used a Canon EF 70-200 f4L at 200mm and f4 with speeds between 1/1500 and 1/2500.
They seem to grab the insects wherever they're found Dan. I have often seen them feeding on ants on the ground as well as flying bugs in the foliage.
Here's one on the ground and if you look closely you'll see an ant over the edge of the brick just in front of her.
And one in flight but the background is very busy.

I spied some wrens very early in the morning everytime I send the little doggies out in the morning but never got to catch them at all. They are quick buggers. These shots are all very nice indeed but what I noticed in the first one is your avatar and your logo at the right side...made me smile. The other two doesn't have the bird.
Beautiful captures of a beautiful little bird. My favourite is the first image because it looks like a scene from a fairy tale. Magical!
