Birthday walk

It was a nice day so rather than be indoors I decided to go for a short walk. The walk started near Great Ayton and up on to Roseberry Common. Not the best time of day for some of the images but I got some fresh air and exercise. I hope you enjoy accompanying me on my Birthday walk.

#1 Roseberry Topping taken from Little Roseberry. The path is part of the Cleveland Way National Trail. The trail is one hundred and ten miles start to finish. Just in case you fancy a little more exercise (without me) here's a LINK to more information on the trail.



#2 The duck pond at Aireyholme Farm near Great Ayton. The father of a famous seafarer worked here in the 1700's. For further information (if you're interested) can be found HERE. Note the ducks and geese all smiling for me.



#3 This lone Larch tree attracts attention from local photographers. I hope we get some snow soon so that I can revisit this scene. You may just make this tree out in image #1 above.


#4 A different take on the same duck pond, taken on my way back to the car. No ducks this time, I wonder if "BrianA61" had called in for a shoot

Don't worry Brian hadn't called by, the ducks were off to the right foraging in the grass, the geese had returned to their field

Happy Birthday. I love your first photo best, the light in that one seems more natural, the others are a little too bright/yellow ?

Hi Peter and happy birthday! I love your series, but I was captured by #1. I just sat and stared at it for awhile.

Looks fine to me, Peter, apart from the angle of the pole on the left of #2. I would be tempted to clone it out. You can just about get away with the fence posts but that tall pole is just too obvious.

I like that first shot, Peter. You have captured a pleasing colour pallet, and I like the way the fence serves as a leading line to the distant and hill and separates the colours. The play of light and shadow gives it a good sense of depth, too.

I like the 3rd shot, too, but I wonder if it would be better to separate the tree from the hill a bit more. The lower branch on the right appears to blend in with the ridge on the hill.

I think the 4th needs a little more blue sky above the tree. It feels a bit cramped at the moment.

Thank you for taking the time to view and comment on this set of images, your comments and suggestions are much appreciated. Also many thanks for all the Birthday wishes.

I apologise for not responding sooner but...life got in the way, not to mention a schoolboy error when giving my image storage drives a spring clean, which prevented me looking back at the original RAW files whilst reading the processing suggestion you gave me in your response.

All is now back in order WRT to my image storage; oh the beauty of accurate back up processes.

Thanks for the suggestions Greg, I have looked back at the raw file of the 4th image which I made at 24mm which for the lens I had with me is as wide as it would go. I could add some sky above the tree but my concern with my processing of the image is that I didn't retain the space below the reflection of the pine tree. Had I done so it would have balanced the space above the taller pine with it's reflection. I shall revisit my processing.
WRT the 3rd image I shall remember your comments and try a slightly different composition next time I visit the tree. But...for this image I shall try a little bit of digital Arboriculture

Thanks for looking Geoff, I had considered removing the pole and the two power cables behind the pines but decided not too. The crop I applied has pronounced the lean on the pole and also it removed the two stay wires which are preventing it falling any further over!.
I shall try a slightly different composition next time I walk that way. Thanks again for taking time to look and comment.

Thanks for looking and commenting Kaye, I had real issues when I processed this set as the sunlight at the right side was really bright. Had I not been travelling light on the day I would have used filters to counter the brightness. Thanks again for taking time to comment.
