Hi Barbara,
Pelicans are one of my favourite birds and I miss photographing them a lot! White pelicans are extra special and I think you've captured their beauty, beautifully! Gorgeous colours, whites, and detail.
I'm not sure if they are just a wee bit too sharp, could be that my eyes are tired? More space in front for the birds to move into would be nice (easy to say after the fact). If it were my image I might consider crop just a little bit off of the bottom, just because the pelicans are so beautiful.
That's awesome. Never seem them swim together like that either. Though it's been a few years since I've lived among them.
IMO this image begs for a pano format. And a bit of room on the left would be nice. Well seen and captured.
Christina, they are my favorites as well. I am not sure what happened, the image changed drastically form my screen. I had resized in OnOne and I think perhaps that is what morphed it. I have now edited and posted another version of the same shot at the original size. Hope it looks better. I wish I had left more room in front. It was starting to rain and I ran out of the car to capture the shot and in my haste to get back to the warm/dry car I rushed the shot
Thanks Dan, pano format? Newbie non-techie here! Speak in a language I can understand, I think the poor babies were trying to stay warm! Did you ever go to the San Jacinto State park when you lived here? Today was amazing. Rosettes, herons, ibis, yellow legs, pelicans, 2 kinds of egrets all within a few feet of year other really unusually for winter time!
I love pelicans and miss them so much! Thanks for sharing these.
Birds on the move... There is never enough time to frame them as we wish, and you did so beautifully.
Yes, the new upload looks perfect... good to know it isn't my eyes.. Pano format... 16 x 9... longer than wide... cropping a bit off of the top as well as the bottom... I too, think this would be perfect.
Very nice.
Thanks John
Very nice shot. Exposure looks great on this one and that can be hard with whites. Also good focus and lots of detail. I agree with above comments on framing. "Pano" short for panorama- yes, a crop like the second version.
Well done, Barbara...You can really capture whites very well. Well, at first look, #1 shot looks cramped at the left but after the suggested edit, I like #1 better...(sorry Christina and Dan) because the pano look seemed to cramp it more all around. Since she wasn't able to give a bit of room at the LHS might as well live with the room from the bottom and top. If this is my shot, I will extend the very little space it has at the LHS and clone it to expand it. Just me...
Hi Barbara,
Yes, this is what I meant but if it were mine I would crop tighter, a little more off of the top and bottom, placing all the emphasis on the pelicans... That said that is simply my personal preference and I still have a lot to learn about composition and framing.
I would demonstrate a crop but I am unable to copy images from this forum, some kind of technical oddity with my computer. Sorry...
